Whether you are experiencing symptoms like persistent bloating and discomfort, or need to monitor known conditions such as kidney stones or fatty liver, our expert sonographers provide the clarity you and your clinician need. To support our female patients, we also offer integrated abdominal and pelvic screenings, providing a complete and holistic overview of your reproductive and digestive health in a single, comfortable appointment.

Why should I have this scan?

You may be referred by a clinician or choose to book a private scan if you are experiencing:

  • Persistent upper abdominal or "loin" (side) pain.

  • Unexplained bloating or digestive discomfort.

  • Symptoms of gallstones or kidney stones.

  • Abnormal blood test results (such as deranged liver function tests).

  • A history of liver lesions, fatty liver, or gallbladder polyps requiring monitoring.

  • Concerns regarding vomiting or nausea.

What organs are evaluated?

Our comprehensive upper abdominal assessment includes a detailed examination of the following:

  • Liver: Checking for size, texture, and signs of fatty liver or lesions.

  • Gallbladder: Screening for gallstones, wall thickening, or polyps.

  • Biliary System: Evaluating the bile ducts for blockages or inflammation.

  • Pancreas: Assessing for inflammation or abnormalities.

  • Kidneys: Identifying kidney stones, cysts, or structural concerns.

  • Spleen: Checking for enlargement or other changes.

  • Abdominal Aorta: Screening for an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA).

How to prepare for your scan

To ensure the clearest possible images, please follow these preparation guidelines:

  • Fast for 6–8 hours: Please do not eat or drink (except for small sips of water) for at least 6 hours before your appointment. This reduces bowel gas and ensures the gallbladder is distended for better visualization.

  • Medication: Continue taking any regular prescribed medication with a small amount of water. If you are diabetic, please contact us for specific advice regarding your fasting schedule.

  • What to wear: We recommend loose-fitting, comfortable clothing. You may be asked to lift your top to allow the sonographer to apply a small amount of warm gel to your abdomen.
