What to expect from a Shoulder Scan?

During the scan, our experienced clinicians carefully evaluate the key musculoskeletal structures of the shoulder, with a special focus on the rotator cuff, a group of muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint and are essential for movement and stability.

This is a dynamic and real-time scan, allowing our clinicians to observe the shoulder in motion, identify tears, inflammation, or impingement, and assist in diagnosing conditions such as rotator cuff injuries, frozen shoulder, or biceps tendonitis. Early diagnosis helps guide your treatment plan, relieve pain, and restore shoulder function.

What structures will be evaluated in a Shoulder Ultrasound Scan?

  • Biceps tendon

  • Subscapularis

  • Supraspinatus

  • Infraspinatus

  • Teres minor

  • Deltoid muscle

  • Glenohumeral joint

  • Acromioclavicular joint

What are the reasons for a Shoulder Ultrasound Scan?

  • Shoulder pain

  • Rotator cuff injury

  • Tendon tear

  • Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)

  • Shoulder impingement

  • Biceps tendonitis

  • Biceps rupture

  • Discomfort or restricted movement

What are the preparations for a Shoulder Ultrasound Scan?

No specific preparation is required before your shoulder ultrasound scan. However, we recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing to allow easy access to the shoulder area. Please inform your clinician if you have had any previous injuries or surgeries to the shoulder being examined, as this information supports a more accurate and effective assessment.
